World Investor Week 2023 (WIW2023) has drawn to a successful close with extensive participation from numerous countries and organizations, as reported by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). In collaboration with global supervisory authorities, CySEC highlighted the importance of financial literacy during this worldwide initiative.
The event, which took place from October 2 to October 8, 2023, was organized by the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and featured a series of both online and in-person activities led by CySEC. The activities were designed to educate investors on fundamental investment principles, potential risks, and responsible financial decision-making.
This year's campaign focused on three critical themes: Investor Resilience, Crypto Assets, and Sustainable Finance, addressing current and anticipated global market conditions. The topics also covered fraud prevention, investment information, technology, and digital finance.
Throughout WIW2023, CySEC was committed to promoting financial education, combating financial illiteracy, and protecting investors. The commission issued press releases to raise awareness about the campaign and its role, utilizing mass media, the internet, and social media to reach the target audience.
Elena Karkoti, an officer at CySEC, took part in television and radio programs to communicate the campaign's key messages and CySEC's efforts in investor education. She also participated in interviews with print media, emphasizing the importance of financial literacy in investor protection.
CySEC's website prominently displayed the WIW2023 logo throughout the campaign, along with an active link to the global program of activities. The commission encouraged its supervised entities, participants in the Cyprus capital market, and stakeholders to spread the campaign's messages through their unique channels.
As part of WIW2023, CySEC introduced a new Smart Investor Booklet on its Financial Education Portal, providing practical tips based on the campaign's key messages. The commission also published an Investor Guide on Sustainable Investing, aiming to educate the public about evolving trends in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investing and the issues related to greenwashing practices.
CySEC expressed its commitment to financial literacy, which will continue throughout October and November, with upcoming initiatives such as lectures and financial literacy workshops that will be announced soon. The successful participation in WIW2023 reflects the importance of promoting financial education and protecting investors in the global financial landscape.
