The United Arab Emirates has unveiled the Blue Visa, a new 10-year residency permit designed to honor individuals and organizations making significant contributions to environmental protection and sustainability. Announced at the World Governments Summit 2025, this initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader mission to position itself as a global hub for sustainability and green innovation. The Blue Visa joins the ranks of the country’s long-term residency programs, such as the Golden Visa, which caters to investors, entrepreneurs, and scientists, and the Green Visa, which provides a five-year residency for skilled professionals and freelancers.

In its initial phase, only 20 experts and innovators will receive this prestigious visa, marking a selective and high-impact rollout. The program is aimed at individuals who are actively engaged in sustainability efforts, including global award-winning environmentalists, researchers, activists, and companies committed to eco-friendly initiatives. Organizations such as NGOs, multinational corporations, and academic institutions focused on climate action, biodiversity preservation, and renewable energy will also be considered eligible. UAE citizens and residents playing a key role in these fields may qualify for the Blue Visa as well.

The introduction of this visa underscores the UAE’s commitment to environmental sustainability and global cooperation. Recipients of the Blue Visa will not only benefit from long-term residency but will also gain access to green funding, specialized resources, and collaboration opportunities within the UAE’s sustainability ecosystem. Moreover, visa holders will receive grants, awards, and recognition for their efforts in driving impactful environmental initiatives.

Applications for the Blue Visa can be submitted through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) via its official website or mobile application. Additionally, government entities specializing in sustainability will have the authority to nominate individuals they deem deserving of this long-term residency. The process begins with electronic approvals, ensuring a streamlined and efficient application experience.

With the launch of the Blue Visa, the UAE continues to solidify its role as a leader in sustainability, offering a residency program that not only acknowledges the contributions of environmental pioneers but also provides them with the resources to expand their impact. By attracting and supporting the world’s top minds in conservation and green innovation, the UAE reinforces its vision of a sustainable future built on collaboration, research, and groundbreaking environmental initiatives.
