Panikkos Vakkou has stepped into the role of Vice Chairman at CySec, following a decision by the Council of Ministers this Wednesday. The announcement, made by the Presidency, not only confirmed Vakkou's promotion from his previous position within the Commission but also unveiled the appointment of Neophytos Lambertidis as a new member.

Describing Vakkou's professional background, the announcement highlighted his tenure as Operations Manager and Risk Manager at Haogen Technologies, underscoring his possession of a CFA Charter and his extensive finance experience. Meanwhile, Lambertidis was noted as an academic, adding diversity to the Commission's expertise.


Vakkou's journey to this pivotal role in the Commission is marked by a rich tapestry of experiences. Before his recent appointment, he served as a Director at RiskMatrix, a key regional partner of Moody's Analytics, from 2016 to 2022. His proficiency in financial matters was further honed during his tenure as a Restructuring Officer in the Large Exposures Management Department of the Cooperative Central Bank, spanning 2014 to 2016. Prior to that, his involvement in the banking sector included roles at Cyprus Popular Bank and later at Bank of Cyprus, beginning in 2009 and 2013, respectively.

Educationally, Vakkou boasts an impressive pedigree, holding an MSc in Financial Mathematics and a BSc (Hons.) degree in Mathematics with Statistics from the University of Manchester. His ascent to the Board of CySec, which commenced on January 19, 2024, underscores his dedication and expertise in the field.


With Vakkou's elevation to Vice Chairman, the Commission stands poised to benefit from his wealth of knowledge and experience, ensuring robust oversight and regulation within the CySec landscape.
