The Council of Ministers today announced the appointment of a new president and members to the Board of Directors of the National Betting Authority (EAS), following a period of uncertainty due to the expiration of the previous board's term. The former Board of Directors' mandate concluded on September 23, leaving a significant delay in the appointment of new leadership. This delay had caused considerable regulatory, supervisory, administrative, and operational paralysis within the Authority, with the betting market itself experiencing the consequences.
Panagiotis Trisokkas, a renowned figure in Cypriot basketball, has now been appointed as the new president of the Authority. Trisokkas, whose impressive career in basketball spans both the national and international arenas, is widely recognized for his leadership on the court and his contributions to the sport.
In addition to his sporting achievements, Trisokkas has been active in politics. He participated in the most recent parliamentary elections as a candidate for the province of Famagusta on the DISY ticket. His academic credentials include a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Business Administration, and he currently serves as a lending officer at Eurobank Cyprus.
On the basketball court, Trisokkas was a distinguished player and captain of the National Team, as well as the captain of Keravnos Strovolos and Frederick University teams. He competed with several clubs including ENP, Keravnos, Makedonikos, Achilleas, and AEK, and was named the best teenage, youth, and Cypriot basketball player. His accolades include being named the most valuable player in the final of the cup, and he earned eight All-Star selections. Trisokkas boasts five Super Cups, four championships, and seven cups over his career.
With the Cyprus National Team, Trisokkas secured four gold medals at the AMKE Games, and with Frederick University, he earned silver and bronze in European university competitions. His role in Cypriot sports extends beyond his playing career—he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA), a member of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (KOE), president of the Cypriot Basketball Players Association (PASK), and president of the Cyprus Coaches Association (SPKK). He has also served as a basketball coach and was a torchbearer in both the Olympic Games and AMKE Games.
The appointment of Trisokkas is expected to bring a fresh perspective and renewed leadership to the National Betting Authority, helping to address the challenges that arose during the period of inactivity. The Cypriot betting market is likely to benefit from his strong background in leadership and management, combined with his experience as a high-level athlete and administrator.
