The Italian passport has been recognized as the most powerful passport in Europe and the second-strongest in the world, providing Italian citizens with extensive travel opportunities.
According to the VisaGuide Passport Index, the Italian passport scored a total of 90.49 points, allowing Italian passport holders visa-free entry to 107 countries. Additionally, Italian citizens can enter 44 countries passport-free, a benefit that even the holders of the world's strongest passport, Singapore, do not enjoy.
Italian Passport: Europe’s Most Powerful for Three Months Running
For the past three months, Italy's passport has held the title of the strongest European passport, ranking second globally. In February and March, the Italian passport was the third most powerful in the world and second in the EU, behind the Spanish passport. This passport permits Italian citizens to enter ten countries with an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) and allows entry to 20 countries with a Visa-On-Arrival (VOA). Some of the countries requiring a VOA for Italian passport holders include Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, Azerbaijan, India, Russia, Uganda, and 16 other countries accept Italian citizens with an eVisa. However, 17 countries, such as Afghanistan, Algeria, and Cuba, still require a visa for Italian passport holders to enter.
Spanish and French Passports Follow Closely
The Spanish and French passports are ranked third and fourth overall for the strongest passports, allowing their respective citizens entry to 106 and 104 countries. Citizens of both countries face visa requirements in 17 countries. The Spanish and French passports have passport scores of 90.48 and 90.45, respectively.
Overall, EU passport holders benefit from significant global mobility, with their passports ranking among the top 20 strongest in the world.
Singaporean Passport Recognized as World’s Strongest for Fourth Consecutive Month
The mobility provided by the Singaporean passport has distinguished it as the world's most powerful passport for four consecutive months—March, April, May, and June. Singaporean passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to 159 countries, including the Schengen States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Moreover, 27 countries require Singapore citizens to obtain a VOA, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. The list of countries imposing visa requirements on Singaporean citizens includes 19 countries, such as Afghanistan, Chad, North Korea, Iraq, and Syria.
