Short underscored the commonalities between jurisdictions and the benefits of sharing ideas and conversations. She expressed the belief that collaboration can enhance the industry for the collective good, stating, "It’s not like we’re eating each other’s lunch. It’s more that, you know, it’s more ‘let’s make the industry overall better for the good of us all’.”

Discussing recent developments in Curaçao, Short mentioned the April 30 deadline for license applications, which she deemed vital for the region. She explained that the closure of the application portal marked the end of a six-month period during which sub-license holders could secure continuity of business by applying for licenses. Short revealed that the response exceeded expectations, with 741 license applications received, far surpassing initial estimates.

Addressing the potential for regulatory tightening and its impact on license holders, Short expressed confidence in the regulator's approach, stating that they welcome the departure of "bad actors" from the jurisdiction. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that legislation supports all stakeholders, including operators and suppliers.

Looking ahead to the reopening of the application portal, Short disclosed that while there will be some changes to the framework, many aspects will remain consistent. She emphasized that all applicants will be subject to the same rigorous due diligence standards, regardless of when they apply, ensuring a level playing field for all prospective licensees.
