Identity verification firm ID-Pal has secured a partnership with Ireland’s Department of Justice aimed at streamlining the country’s online visa renewal process through advanced technology. Utilizing ID-Pal’s AI-driven system, the Department will now be able to verify identities instantly, ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and data protection regulations.
ID-Pal’s platform, which boasts the ability to authenticate over 7,000 types of identity documents and draw from 200 global sources for verified address data, will bring significant innovation to the visa renewal process. The company, founded in 2016 by CEO Colum Lyons, specializes in real-time identity checks, incorporating document verification, facial recognition, and address confirmation.
“This collaboration highlights our dedication to supporting the digital transformation of public services,” Lyons said, emphasizing the company’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and security of public sector processes. Lyons added that the partnership intends to make Ireland’s immigration system “more efficient, accessible, and secure.”
The initiative aligns with the government’s Digital Contact Centre plan, a larger effort to modernize immigration services in Ireland. Starting November 4th, all visa renewals will be processed online, eliminating the need for individuals to visit local garda stations in person. Previously, online renewals were limited to residents in select counties, including Dublin and Cork.
Ireland’s Justice Minister Helen McEntee praised the new digital contact centre as a “major advance in the immigration modernization programme.” As part of broader improvements, the Irish government has committed an additional €25 million to upgrade its immigration system, including €5 million specifically designated for digital advancements.
