Cyprus Sets Record for August Tourism Revenue, Generating €511.4 Million

Cyprus has achieved its highest recorded tourism revenue for the month of August, bringing in €511.4 million, according to a report issued this week by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

This revenue figure represents a 5.9 percent rise from August 2023, when earnings reached €483 million.


Based on Cystat’s latest traveler survey, Cyprus's tourism revenue from January to August this year hit €2.12 billion—a 4.6 percent increase compared to the €2.02 billion generated over the same period last year.


Despite these record-breaking figures, there has been a noted decrease in average spending per tourist. In August 2024, tourists spent an average of €921.59 per person, down by 2.4 percent from €944.51 in August 2023.

British tourists, representing the largest share of visitors at 34.7 percent in August 2024, spent an average of €100.58 per day. Israeli tourists, the second largest group at 13.3 percent, spent slightly more at an average of €112.87 per day. Meanwhile, Polish tourists made up 7.7 percent of the market with a daily average spend of €90.54.


Among all visiting nationalities, Austrian tourists reported the highest daily spending at €132.74, followed by French tourists at €116.70, and Israelis at €112.87 per day.


This record-breaking month signals robust growth in Cyprus’s tourism sector, underscoring the island’s continued appeal as a top destination for international travelers.
