Cyprus and Greece have unveiled a joint funding initiative worth €2 million aimed at bolstering collaboration in the fields of research, innovation, and technology. The announcement, made this week, highlights the efforts of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) of Cyprus and Greece’s General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) to strengthen ties through the European Partnerships Programme.
“The programme offers funding of up to €100,000 to promote and support cooperation between Greek and Cypriot research organisations and businesses,” the RIF confirmed in its official statement. The initiative is designed to encourage transnational partnerships between the two countries, with a particular focus on areas of strategic importance.
Projects eligible for funding must align with the Smart Specialisation Strategy, targeting sectors such as digital technologies, agri-food, marine and maritime ecosystems, renewable energy, and health. To qualify, the transnational network must include at least one research organisation and one enterprise from each participating country, as detailed in the announcement.
The programme is co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Cohesion Policy Programme Thalia 2021-2027, further demonstrating the commitment of both nations to fostering innovation and sustainable development.
Interested parties are invited to submit proposals through the RIF IRIS portal by February 27, 2025, ensuring that the opportunity to access this significant funding supports innovative projects and collaboration across borders.
