Chile's gambling regulator, the Superintendence of Gambling Casinos (SCJ), has reported significant progress in fostering a mutually beneficial relationship between the regulated gambling sector and society. Superintendent Vivien Villagrán emphasized the strides made in responsibly allocating casino permits and regulating online gaming platforms during the annual performance showcase.
"We have focused on the construction of public value through excellence combined with responsible gambling control and promotion," stated Superintendent Villagrán.
While Chile prioritizes regulating online gambling and sports betting, it also keeps pace with neighboring countries establishing their regulated markets to tackle international technological advancements. The SCJ's strategic focus for 2024 builds upon the achievements of 2023, aiming to enhance industry competitiveness and public value through national and local projects.
According to Gando, a spokesperson for the Chilean gambling authority, this approach will establish an ethical framework to ensure regulatory compliance and develop responsible gambling strategies, fostering public trust and confidence.
"We aim to maintain a harmonious relationship between the industry and the community while implementing necessary safeguards," Gando emphasized.
The SCJ's 2023 performance showcase also highlighted the National Responsible Gambling Strategy, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. This strategy aims to promote a culture of responsible gambling and entertainment while preventing problematic gambling through coordinated efforts with public and private stakeholders.
Additionally, the strategy serves as a tool in combating Chile's illegal gambling sector, with the SCJ actively collaborating with municipalities and police forces to eliminate unauthorized gambling machine operations outside regulated casinos.
Superintendent Villagrán reiterated the commitment to continuous improvement in institutional performance to fulfill the legal mandate effectively. "We persist in enhancing our actions to improve efficiency and quality in line with our legal responsibilities," Villagrán concluded.
