Colombian gaming regulator Coljuegos has granted authorisation for Betano, a brand operated by Kaizen Gaming Colombia, to launch its online betting platform in the country.
This move places Betano alongside 16 other licensed operators now permitted to run online gaming services in Colombia.
Speaking on the milestone, Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié remarked:
“We continue to strengthen the industry of games operated by the internet. We hope that, with the entry of this new operator, we can continue to increase transfers for the health of Colombians. At this time, the platform is already operating for the betting public."
Hincapié emphasized the economic significance of the online betting industry, stating:
“We are seeing that online betting is a sector of the economy that has driven the growth of the country's gross domestic product. For this reason, we are working to make the market even more attractive and to provide more options to bettors."
Revenue Contributions and Economic Impact
Coljuegos projects that online betting platforms will collectively contribute P 419.5m ($95.5m) to the regulator by the end of the year. This represents a 31% year-on-year increase in payments made for the right to operate within the country. Over the next five years, Betano alone is expected to pay P 21.5m in operational rights and administrative fees.
These funds play a vital role in supporting Colombia’s public health system, subsidizing healthcare services, and funding scientific research initiatives.
An Expanding Market
Betano’s approval marks another step forward in Colombia’s growing online betting sector, which already includes notable operators such as Betsson, Luckia, BetPlay, Bwin, Rivalo, Zamba, and Stake. The list reflects a competitive market with a variety of offerings for Colombian bettors.
Beyond online operators, land-based gaming continues to thrive. For example, Novomatic recently introduced its Fazi Mega Pay roulette machines at Gran Casino Buenavista and Zamba Plaza del Parque in May, further diversifying the nation’s gaming options.
Regional Developments
Betano’s entry into Colombia coincides with similar progress in Brazil, where regulatory measures for online gaming are advancing. Several operators, including Stake, Fazi, and Booming Games, have already received pre-approval to operate in Brazil, underscoring the burgeoning gaming market across Latin America.
The arrival of Betano highlights Colombia’s commitment to expanding its regulated gaming sector, bolstering economic growth, and ensuring substantial contributions to public welfare programs.
