Interest among United States nationals in relocating to Portugal has seen a significant spike, particularly in obtaining the country’s D7 Visa. Ei! American Interest in Portugal's D7 Visa Surges Amid Political Developments

In November, a total of 95 inquiries regarding visas and residence permits were made by U.S. citizens, with the most significant surge occurring on November 4, just one day before the U.S. elections. Nearly 90 percent of these inquiries were focused on the D7 Visa, highlighting the growing appeal of this option for American nationals.

The D7 Visa, also referred to as the Portugal Passive Income Visa, is designed for non-EU nationals with a stable passive income. This visa is particularly attractive to retirees, individuals with regular and reliable incomes, and investors. Data shared by Ei! Assessoria Migratória revealed that of the 95 total inquiries, 71 were specifically about the D7 Visa in November.

In addition to the D7 Visa, some Americans expressed interest in Portugal’s D8 Visa, commonly known as the Digital Nomad Visa. This visa allows remote workers to apply for either a one-year temporary stay visa or a residence permit, granting them the legal right to reside in Portugal while continuing their remote work.

There has also been increased attention on Portugal’s Golden Visa among U.S. nationals, although specific data regarding these inquiries has not yet been released.

Meanwhile, broader interest in migration to the European Union has surged dramatically among Americans following the announcement of Donald Trump’s election victory. According to VisaGuide.World, online searches by American users related to migration and relocation to EU countries rose by an astonishing 1,514 percent.

While Americans explored numerous EU destinations, the most popular were Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal. These countries were appealing due to various factors, including affordability, favorable climates, and ease of integration for English speakers.

Portugal’s reputation as a desirable relocation destination continues to grow, with the D7 Visa leading the way in attracting Americans seeking new opportunities abroad.
